Guest Lecture
The Myths (and Realities) of Entrepreneurship
Sean D. Carr, M.B.A.
+Show/Hide Description
Educational Objectives:
1) Identify the common misconceptions about entrepreneurship
2) Understand the nature of entrepreneurial thinking and action
3) Appreciate the link between innovation and entrepreneurship
4) Apply the lessons of an entrepreneurial method to their profession
The archetype of the American entrepreneur - the rugged, risk-seeking individualist - has been woven into the fabric of our self-conception since the earliest days of the republic. Yet decades of research have shown that much of what we think we know about entrepreneurs is wrong. Drawing from the latest findings in management, economics, and psychology, we will unravel the myths, reflect on the realities, and provide an outline for a new method of entrepreneurial thinking and action. When innovation matters for success (and survival), we will discuss how practitioners can adopt an entrepreneurial approach to implement their ideas for change.
